MODEL DCP2

7,500-30,000# Positive Control, Dual Direction Car Pullers with 250' and 400' Car Travel Lengths

Request Bulletin DCP-102 for Full Specifications

APPLICATION

PULLING -- DUAL DIRECTION

Positive control "Forward -- Reverse" railroad car or transfer car dual direction operation where car spotting or frequent reverses in car travel are required -- railroad car loading and unloading applications (coal - wood chips - grain - chemical) or transfer car applications in plant or between plants (raw steel - palletized loads - fabrications).

All DCP2 car pullers require a closed loop wire rope system with dual hitch rope car hooks for positive control dual direction car operation.

Drums are provided with wire rope dead end provisions on each end -- as wire rope wraps onto the grooved car puller drum the same amount of wire rope unwraps off the car puller drum -- approximately one (1) groove separates "lead on" and "lead off" wire ropes at all times. With car puller mounted along length of car travel, both wire ropes will lead off top of car puller drum in opposite directions.

FEATURES

DRUM

Large diameter all fabricated steel -- 25:1 nominal pitch diameter to wire rope diameter ratio -- precision machined one-half depth left hand grooving for two (2) wire ropes providing smooth equal speed positive "Forward - Reverse" car control -- three (3) extra dead grooves at each end of the drum insure a safe wire rope to drum connection with each wire rope firmly attached to the drum by clamp type wire rope dead ends permitting easy wire rope length adjustments -- all wire rope is on one layer.

LEVEL CABLE WINDING ROLLER

Maintains a continuous spring loaded force against wire rope into proper drum grooves -- eliminates possible mis-reeving of the trailing slack wire rope when the opposite wire rope is under load. Precision machined roller is equipped with anti-friction ball bearings for smooth free rolling non-abrasive contact with wire rope on the car puller drum. Protection against wire rope mis-reeving or overlapping to a second layer is provided thru a control circuit limit switch which automatically de-energizes the car puller drive.

GEARING

Triple reduction drive train -- first reduction (high speed reduction) heavy duty drive with a 2:1 minimum service factor supplied with a fabricated steel protective cover -- second reduction (intermediate reduction) includes a heavy duty oil bath lubricated worm gear set with precision machined one piece alloy steel hardened and ground worm engaging an aluminum - bronze centrifugally cast worm gear providing extended gear set life -- third reduction (slow speed reduction) includes a heavy duty drive with a 2:1 minimum service factor supplied with a fabricated steel protective cover.

ELECTRIC MOTOR

Reversing totally enclosed high starting torque design for pulling service with Class "B" insulation for long life -- reconnectible for operation on 230 or 460 Volt -3 Phase -60 Hertz electrical power.

AIR MOTOR (Optional)

17HP thru 25HP motors are totally enclosed four (4) cylinder instantly reversible radial piston design for smooth shockless starts and infinitely variable speed positive load control having excellent low speed lugging characteristics for accurate load spotting. Can be stalled or overloaded without damage.

CAR PULLER FRAME

Fabricated of steel all welded construction with a rib reinforced solid deck plate providing a common base for our "built-up" car puller design. This "built-up" design allows efficient heat dissipation plus quick easy access to all car puller components simplifying routine maintenance thereby extending car puller life.

INSTALLATION

Model DCP2 car pullers are normally positioned alongside the railroad track being serviced preferably centered on the railroad car length of travel for the best possible fleet angle relationship, but no closer to directional sheaves than recommended under "Minimum Fleet Sheave Locations" noted in Bulletin No. DCP-102 -- Request a copy. The use of directional sheaves between the car puller and railroad car absorbs unavoidable severe wire rope angulation created by different car heights, offset position of car puller and normal lateral deflection between the main haulage wire rope and the connection point to the railroad car. Maintaining a correct fleet angle will result in safe, efficient car puller operation plus extended car puller and wire rope life.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT

  • Other lengths of car travel
  • Single speed magnetic reversing remote pushbutton operated control
  • Motor running over current protection (MROP)
