APPLICATION
PULLING -- SINGLE DIRECTION
Dis-engage manual lever operated free-spooling drum clutch and walk wire rope out to load -- engage drum clutch and power pull load back toward winch to a distance no closer than recommended under "Minimum Fleet Sheave Location" in Bulletin No. EW-104 -- Request a copy.
LIFTING
Power lift and power lower -- free spooling drum clutch normally locked out to prevent accidental wire rope payout -- electric motor brake required for positive load control. Winches may be field reeved for larger lifting capacity -- consult factory for assistance.
CAR PULLING -- SINGLE DIRECTION
Dis-engage manual lever operated free-spooling drum clutch and walk wire rope out to railroad car preferably thru a directional sheave -- engage drum clutch and power pull railroad car back toward directional sheave.
FEATURES
FREE-SPOOLING DRUM
Manual lever operated for rapid no load payout of wire rope -- dis-engage clutch and walk cable out to load -- re-engage clutch and power pull load back to winch. Clutch is multi-jaw type fabricated from alloy steel with reverse draft to prevent accidental disengagement under load conditions. Free-spooling drum feature is normally locked out on all lifting applications for extra safety.
DRUM
Large diameter all fabricated steel -- 20:1 minimum first layer drum pitch diameter to wire rope diameter ratio for smooth wire rope tracking and extended wire rope life. Drum rolls efficiently on heavy duty anti friction pillow block bearings with shear bars for permanent alignment. Adjustable drum drag brake included for controlled drum rotation during free-spooling operation.
GEARING
Triple reduction drive train -- first reduction (high speed reduction) heavy duty drive with a 2:1 minimum service factor supplied with fabricated steel protective cover -- second reduction (intermediate reduction) heavy duty self-locking oil bath lubricated worm gear set for positive load control -- third reduction (slow speed reduction) heavy duty drive with a 2:1 minimum service factor supplied with fabricated steel protective cover.
ELECTRIC MOTOR
Reversing totally enclosed high starting torque design for hoisting or pulling service with Class "B" insulation for long life -- reconnectible for operation on 230 or 460 Volt -3 Phase -60 Hertz electrical power.
AIR MOTOR (Optional)
17HP thru 25HP motors are totally enclosed four (4) cylinder instantly reversible radial piston design for smooth shockless starts and infinitely variable speed positive load control having excellent low speed lugging characteristics for accurate load spotting. Can be stalled or overloaded without damage.
WINCH FRAME
Fabricated of steel all welded construction with a rib reinforced solid deck plate providing a common base for our "built-up" winch design. This "built-up" design allows efficient heat dissipation plus quick easy access to all winch components simplifying routine maintenance thereby extending winch life.
SERVICE
Rugged construction for dependable indoor or outdoor service.
INSTALLATION
Take special care to properly position winch in relation to the first fleet sheave or fixed connection point to load being handled -- refer to the specification block in Bulletin No. EW-104 -- Request a copy. Maintaining a correct fleet angle will result in safe efficient winch operation plus extended winch and wire rope life. Use our "Drum Dividing Flange" feature to reduce drum length for those special cases where sheaves must be closer than recommended. Also consider our "Level Cable Winding Roller" feature for orderly wire rope reeving onto winch drum and extended wire rope life for those applications with frequent slack wire rope.
